New Reports Chart Offshore Wind's Path Forward

Sunday, December 30, 2012
As the United States prepares to enter the global offshore wind market, what opportunities and challenges lie ahead? The answer to this question, among many others, is explored in two new reports released December 12 by the Energy Department.

The reports—Offshore Wind Market and Economic Analysis and U.S. Offshore Wind Manufacturing and Supply Chain Development—provide detailed assessments of the economic and energy potential of our nation's nascent offshore wind industry. Part of the Department's national offshore wind strategy, these reports are among a suite of tools designed to assist offshore wind project developers and industry stakeholders. For the complete story, see the Energy Blog.

Interior reports two major wind energy initiatives end review

Monday, July 09, 2012
The US Department of Interior (DOI) on 2 July announced that two large wind energy initiatives important environmental reviews in three States - completed Massachusetts, Rhode Iceland and Wyoming - the way for public comments and proof-reading.

DOI announced the release of the final impact on the environment instructions for a proposed wind complex in Wyoming, the up to 3,000 megawatts in power, so that the largest wind farm plant in the United States and one of the largest it would generate in the world. The proposed Chokecherry Sierra Madre wind farm would include up to 1,000 turbines and generate enough power for more than 1 million homes. The project would be built on public, private and Government land in carbon County (Wyoming). The Bureau of land management (BLM) checks the proposed wind project as well as a proposal to amend the Rawlins resource management the installation plan.

DOI also announced the publication of an environmental assessment for commercial wind leases and site assessment activities on the outer continental shelf offshore Rhode Iceland and Massachusetts. This step DOI positioned around the area as one of the nation's first offshore competitive leasing sales before end of the year to offer. The environmental assessment for the Rhode Iceland/Massachusetts wind energy sector are to inform decisions within the framework of the Obama administration "smart from the start" offshore wind energy initiative of the Bureau of ocean energy management (BOEM) to the future leasing. The wind energy sector comprises 164.750 hectares in the area of mutual interest of both countries identified. Leadership consider BOEM hosts public events on the 16 and 17 other interest groups and public comments on environmental assessment. See press release DOI.

Reports: $257 billion invested worldwide in renewable energy 2011

Sunday, June 24, 2012
Total investment in renewable energy and fuels last year $257 billion, according to two new reports on renewable energy rose by 17% to a record trends of the United Nations (UNEP) and the renewable energy policy network for the 21st century (REN21). The global trends in renewable energy investment 2012 is the fifth edition of the UNEP report. It is based on data by Bloomberg new energy finance. The fact that solar power generation wind passed the renewable energy technology of choice for global investors in the year 2011 will be among the highlights. The global trends in renewable energy investment 2012 report see.

According to the REN21 renewables 2012 global status report, renewable energy continue to grow strongly: in 2011 in all end-use sectors: electricity, heating and cooling and transport. Deliver 16.7% of global energy consumption, renewable sources are grown. Of the release has provided slightly decreased from traditional biomass, while the share of modern technologies for renewable energy has increased relative. Global find the REN21 renewables 2012 status report.

The United States in the year 2011, the gap with China at the top of the ranking investment renewable energy closed. US investment rose by 57% to $51 billion. China, which has led the world for two years, took renewable energy investment of $52 billion, up 17%. The top 7 countries for electricity from renewable energy sources except capacity large hydropower - China, the United States, Germany, Spain, Italy, India and Japan - about 70% of the total non-hydro is renewable world. By the end of 2011, world 1,360 gigawatts (GW), 8% in 2010; exceeded performance overall renewable energy more than 25% of global electricity generation capacity (estimated at 5,360 GW in 2011) and an estimated 20.3% of global power includes renewable energy supplied. Tethys Petroleum reports Uzbekistan exploration MOU

Sunday, February 05, 2012

Tethys Petroleum has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Uzbekneftegaz, the Uzbek State, oil and gas companies.

This agreement is designed to provide the framework for a joint study and the process of negotiations for an agreement in connection with certain exploration exploration in the North of Ustyurt basin Uzbekistan blocked.

"This agreement is an excellent step forward with our partners Uzbekneftegaz potentially on the research of North Ustyurt basin in Uzbekistan - a basin where we success, had already good exploration, work together", said Dr. David Robson, Chief Executive Officer of the Tethys Ocean.

"We believe that our comprehensive modeling of Doris oil discovery and the surrounding area, if the Uzbek part of the basin has applied our view very similar geological features and excellent oil and Prospectivity can be very useful."

Tethys focuses activities in Central Asia with activities on oil and gas exploration and production currently in the republics of Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

This very prolific oil and gas field is developing rapidly and Tethys believes that there is considerable potential in both exploration and discovered deposits.

DOE reports potential for wave and tidal power generation

Friday, January 27, 2012

DOE published on 18th January two resource reviews indicate that waves and coastal tidal currents at the U.S. much could contribute electricity generation. Particularly high potential for wave energy development has the West Coast, including Alaska and Hawaii, while there are great opportunities for the wave energy on the East Coast. In addition, parts of both coasts have strong tides, which could be used to generate energy. In combination with other analyses, these evaluations show that water power 15% of U.S. electricity by the year 2030 could.

Of electricity per year about 4,000 terawatt hours (TWh) uses the United States. DOE estimates that the maximum theoretical electrical generation generated by waves and tidal currents around 1,420 TWh per year could be about a third of the country's total annual consumption. Although not all of the possible resource identified in these realistic assessments can be developed, a new water power development, highlighting opportunities still significant results are specific ways, to the 6% that already the nation power out to expand hydropower resources.

In addition to the wave and tidal resource reviews plans DOE of additional resources of assessments for ocean current, ocean of thermal gradients and new water power resources in the year 2012. To support the development of technologies that can tap into these massive resources, DOE's water is power program a detailed technical and economic assessment of companies to more accurately predict a variety of water power technologies, the opportunities and cost of development and deployment of this innovative technology. The program supports more than 40 demonstration projects that will advance the commercial readiness of these systems; provide first-of-a-kind performance data that will verify the cost of energy predictions in the water; and to identify ways for great cost savings. Progress, see the DOE attention and water power program website.
