Department of Energy Announces Federal Energy Management Award winner

Thursday, October 11, 2012
The winners of the 31st annual federal energy and water management awards has the Energy Ministry on October 4. These awards recognize federal agencies invest commitment in energy efficiency measures that save taxpayer money and to increase U.S. energy security. The winners of this year's total 6 trillion BTU stored energy, almost 2 billion gallons of water and almost 165 million $ in fiscal 2011. Its initiatives also offset more than 78 billion BTU based on fossil energy helped by a combination of electricity produced from renewable energy sources and purchases. The energy savings are equivalent to more than 100,000 cars off the road for a year remove or eliminate the average annual energy consumption of more than 55,000 households.

This year throughout the Federal Government received 33 individuals, teams and organizations of awards for a variety of outstanding and innovative efforts that have improved energy, water and vehicle fleet efficiency. Past winners include employees serve the U.S. air force, army, Marine Corps, and Navy; the departments of energy, homeland security, Interior, transportation, and Veterans Affairs; the General Services Administration; and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Those demonstrated that mandated energy can achieve significant benefits of using performance-based contracts approved. The achievements implemented system-wide changes to operating and maintenance procedures, 580 billion BTU save, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems upgrade and installation of high-efficiency lighting, building materials, and control energy management systems. This includes 78 billion BTU through the installation of renewable energy systems including solar thermal and photovoltaic systems, cogeneration systems that use Save Deponie gas and geothermal heat pumps. She pursued also leadership in energy and environmental facilities with State-of-the-art technologies certified design (LEED) and create eco-friendly workspaces. On 6 August, announced the Interior Department are Defense Minister Leon Panetta and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar of understanding (MOU) signed a memorandum, the corresponding series promotes renewable energy projects on public land, which purposes are reserved for the defense and on other onshore and offshore areas in the vicinity of military installations. The MOU provides the renewable energy partnership plan, which aimed at ensuring that use solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass energy resources found on or in the vicinity of military installations in the country.

Department of Defense (DoD) installations include approximately 28 million acres in the United States, including 16 million hectares, that previously managed by the Interior Bureau of land management (BLM), were withdrawn for military purposes. About 13 million hectares free time withdrawn lie to the West and resources are high in the wind, solar and geothermal energy. Offshore wind power is also a plentiful renewable energy resource available on many DoD installations on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts along the Gulf of Mexico and in Hawaii. Offshore Atlantic winds alone, an estimated 1,000 gigawatts could produce energy.

Can renewable energy important functions for weeks or months, if fails the commercial network maintain a military base. To keep the military operation in the absence of a grid, each of the military services has committed to provide one gigawatt renewable energy at or near its installations to the year 2025. In pursuit of these objectives is the agreement a framework for an offshore wind farm partnership and Forum; offers onshore renewable energy projects for DoD installations to identify a blueprint for the Interior and the Ministry of defence of the United States; created a working group on geothermal; and passes to develop the Ministry of defence and the BLM on a pilot procedure to authorize solar energy projects on several military installations in Arizona and California. See the press release of the Department of Interior and MOU.

This competition recognizes the Federal Government's most powerful buildings and challenges, the largest annual energy intensity to reduce the amount of energy consumed per square metre. The Federal Republic, which reached a one-year competition time wins the greatest energy savings.

The finalists representing a range of building types, sizes, and agency functions, were selected, based on past and current sustainability efforts that promote leadership to demonstrate and ongoing energy savings. You're building in Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, New Mexico, Texas, and West Virginia. In the selection of the finalists as the Department of federal energy management program (FEMP) energy efficiency improvement measures, which in the plant, best practices in energy management and building operations of the port facility employees, and institutional change programs, and other tools that were used to provide comprehensive sustainability efforts within the facility. Federal Government approves first deep-sea drilling approval in the Gulf

Friday, July 01, 2011
After more than eight months no deep drilling in the Gulf of Mexico has approved the United States the first approval for deep sea drilling in the region.

The Bureau of ocean energy management, regulation and enforcement on Monday announced that noble Energy Inc. is a permission, well, about 70 miles southeast of Venice, La. continue to work was issued

Noble began drilling well four days before the deepwater horizon well exploded. Drilling activity was exposed on 12 June under a moratorium to the United States on the research in waters deeper than 500 feet placed. If the moratorium was lifted in October allowed many thought it would be not long before it would be business as usual in the Gulf, but not new, were issued. 37 Other drilling permits has approved the United States since the lifting of the moratorium, but they were all in shallow water.

Feeling increased pressure from the oil industry began regulators and legislators alike began while drilling projects get back in the Gulf so that new safeguards were available.

Noble received approval to demonstrate it is according to Director Michael Bromwich, which contain a well blowout. The company commissioned the Helix well use containment group, an emergency cover areas, to stop the flow of oil if it loses power over a good stack.

A consortium led by Exxon Mobil Corp. offers an other emergency containment solution, as announced this month.

"We expect more deep-sea allows be approved, in the coming weeks and months based on the same process, which led to the approval of this permission", Bromwich said.
