Ten clean energy stocks for 2013: first mid-term review
на 8:00 AM Sunday, July 07, 2013Since the last update on the 5th of may, my portfolio made progress 3.0 per cent for a 10.5 percent in the first half back. The portfolio continues to however both measured the mass market of small-cap stocks on my scale the iShares Russell 2000 index (IWM) and the outstanding performance of the clean energy stocks, measured on the leading clean energy ETF, the power shares WilderHill clean energy index (PBW) left behind.
IWM inched 2.7 percent total 17.9 percent return, while PBW first half year back scored an extra 13.9 percent total 34.9 percent.
Clean energy boom
Leading clean energy stocks such as Tesla (NASD: TSLA), SolarCity (NASD: SCTY) and other solaren stocks such as first solar (FSLR) have investors attention and production were recently fishing by stellar returns.
The former seem high riding are, because they have put the naysayers in the shadow, through the provision of better than expected. Electric cars such as the Tesla model S may not be big financial investments, but by all reports, they are great cars. The skeptics could could well remind you that much more than total cost of ownership (TCO) of the car purchase is decision. If TCO all car buyers would ever taken into consideration, we would all be driving small business and municipal budget with an SUV would not exist.
The stronger solar stocks such as first solar gains have more to do with the extreme lows, in that in this sector declined in recent years. While excess capacity still threatens the industry has begun to consolidate and module prices, if not increase, have at least finished descent. The company, which is expected to survive the Shake-Out look like are recovered.
Both of these trends have led to a strong rally for clean energy stocks, which as we have not seen since the financial crisis.
Portfolio performance
Along with my model portfolio I also a list of six alternative tips of the clean energy companies, I gladly recorded that, but I do not in the main list contain that, rated because I felt they were not as good as the others. I wanted that readers who were uncomfortable selects ten with one of my top instead these alternatives to replace list. This group dropped an average 23 percent for the year (including the effects of the declining Canadian dollar), despite a number of positive developments for the individual names. All are trading a a substantial discount to the value of their assets with Alterra and RAM power cash flow positive, and us geothermal profitable on a GAAP basis. Finavera, is now in the possession of its assets for sale and I expect that it the current stock price equal money more than double by the end of next year to have.
A bright spot was the performance of my taking alternative transportation and clean transport. I think less by tailwind of Tesla as individual factors in specific enterprises; I'll have the information in the next part of this update.
Conclusion
I hope that the current has clean energy rally continues. This is the case, I am sure that it will bring my less flashy yet more dust will go out for dinner. On the other hand, if the stock market starts excitement for renewable energy companies continue to spread, perhaps renewable energy developers a bit of fairy dust. I would rather fly and eat a little dust than drown in the mud.
The rally "Falter", or even reverse my picks should relatively better, as they have in the last few years. We hope that this happens not: my last years performance was small consolation for some rather gloomy times in terms of clean energy.

Selected New Jersey for the first phase of the offshore wind transmission project

First ocean energy delivered to the U.S. network

The first grid-connected tidal power project in the United States project now supplies electricity to the utility grid of a underwater power system in Cobscook Bay (Maine). DOI OKs first commercial solar project on Indian trust land

First commercial product meets air conditioning on the roof challenge

SunShot Shoots for the Moon with First Grand Challenge Event
на 5:00 PM Friday, June 01, 2012About two years ago, my good friend Arun Majumdar, director of ARPA-E, coined the term "SunShot" in one of our meetings. We decided then that all of the solar program efforts going forward would focus on the common goal of making solar electricity cost-competitive by the end of the decade. Such a goal was incredibly ambitious, so it was fitting that the initiative’s name would be inspired by President Kennedy’s "moon shot" speech that launched NASA's effort to put a man on the moon.
We have been doing everything in our power to reduce energy costs for consumers and to ensure that American innovators and companies can lead the global transition to a clean energy economy. As the price of solar panels has decreased, the solar energy industry in the United States has exploded. Solar installations doubled from 2009 to 2010, and the domestic market grew to $6 billion in 2010.
We now know that SunShot goals are within our reach. By tapping into the best and brightest minds in science, industry, and academia, we are already making progress. The SunShot Initiative is funding more than 250 projects that explore every possible way to drive down the cost of solar, from developing an efficient solar cell that’s as thin as a human hair to creating a GIS-based tool that can perform site assessments from space. But there is much work left to do.
The SunShot Grand Challenge: Summit and Technology Forum next month will give us the opportunity to highlight the progress of the past two years and reassess the challenges that must be overcome in order to reach the 2020 goal. We are inviting everyone who is contributing to this effort to join us at what promises to be an exciting event June 13–14 in Denver, Colorado. Interior Department Flips Switch on First Public Lands Solar Project

U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on May 7 flipped the switch to start the first large-scale solar energy facility on U.S. public lands delivering power to consumers. Silver State North is a 50-megawatt plant located 40 miles south of Las Vegas, Nevada, that will use photovoltaic (PV) technology to generate enough power for about 9,000 Nevada homes. The plant was built on 618 acres of public land managed by Interior's Bureau of Land Management, after the solar facility underwent full environmental analysis and public review. It was developed by First Solar and is owned by Enbridge.
Prior to 2009, there were no solar energy projects permitted on public lands. Since then, the Interior Department has authorized 29 large-scale renewable energy projects on or involving public lands, including 16 solar facilities, 5 wind farms, and 8 geothermal plants. Army provides first military fuel cell fleet

The army introduced a fleet of 16 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on 22 February, the army, Navy, air force and Marines test in Hawaii in an effort, the research of renewable energy sources and dependence on oil. First oil at Aseng the PA increases resource production

Federal Government approves first deep-sea drilling approval in the Gulf

World?s first solar plane takes flight

BRUSSELS - A solar energy plane made the world?s first international flight powered by the sun on Friday to show the potential for pollution-free air travel.
The Solar Impulse took off from an airfield at Payerne in western Switzerland on Friday morning and landed at Brussels airport after a 13-hour flight.
?The objective is to demonstrate what we can do with existing technology in terms of renewable energy and energy savings,? project co-founder and pilot Andre Borschberg told Reuters by telephone during the flight.
Borschberg believes such solar-harnessing technology can be used to power cars and homes. ?It is symbolic to be able to go from one place to another using solar energy,? he said.
The Solar Impulse project began in 2003 with a 10-year budget of 90 million euros ($128 million) and has involved engineers from Swiss lift maker Schindler and research aid from Belgian chemicals group Solvay.
The plane, which requires 12,000 solar cells, embarked on its first flight in April 2010 and completed a 26-hour flight, a record flying time for a solar powered aircraft, three months later.
With an average flying speed of 70 km/h (44 mph), Solar Impulse is not an immediate threat to commercial jets, which can easily cruise at more than 10 times the speed. A flight from Geneva from Brussels can take little more than an hour.
Project leaders acknowledged it had been a major challenge to fit a slow-flying plane into the commercial air traffic system.
Friday?s flight was Solar Impulse?s fifth. Previous flights did not leave Switzerland. A larger prototype is scheduled to fly around the world in 2013.
