Exchange of weather data with the NOAA wind farm

Sunday, November 25, 2012
Two of the country's largest manufacturer of wind power generated parts privately collected weather data with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Agency scientists with additional observations of wind farms across the nation for research and operations. NOAA now has data-sharing agreements for Iberdrola renewables, Portland, Oregon, and NextEra energy resources of Juno Beach, Florida. This is the country of the two largest producers of wind generated electricity, according to the American Wind Energy Association.

The company provides valuable weather observations by instrumented towers in their wind farms and wind speed data from instruments on wind turbines. While the designs are companies and outside of NOAA not redistributed be scientists will use the Agency to review the data and improve weather models NOAA Earth system research laboratory and at NOAA's national centers for environmental prediction.
