WIRSOL, Suntech, Q-cells sponsor Bundesliga as football goes solar

WIRSOL Solar AG signed a sponsorship contract with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, as solar energy companies sign third-party football deals clubs with German Bundesliga in less than two weeks.

WIRSOL, a privately owned photovoltaic retailer, bought a name to the TSG Hoffenheim of Rhein-Neckar-arena for the next three seasons for an undisclosed amount, the company said in a statement today. China's Suntech Power Holdings Co., Yingli Green energy holding co. as well as Germany's Q-cells SE (QCE) and Solarworld AG (SWV) have signed agreements with the Bundesliga clubs in the past few months.

"Soccer sponsoring increases brand awareness and can lead to new customers," Henning said Wicht, a solar analyst at IHS Isuppli researchers, in a telephone interview from Munich. "It also shows that solar energy companies are entering the mainstream."

At Hoffenheim in Wirsol Jersey sponsor Suntech flows. Q cells, once the world's largest manufacturer of solar cells, said July 14 containing a 5-year sponsorship deal with champions Borussia Dortmund signed, the a plan that deck to the roof of the Club Stadium with solar panels. Yingli has been a "premium sponsor" for Bayern Munich since March and Solarworld, Germany's largest engine manufacturer, sponsoring Cologne 2009 started.
